Be aware, wildlife is there, but if game viewing is your prime objective, then maybe you should plan on a different destination or … combine Namibia with Botswana to get the ultimate travel experience in Southern Africa.

Will I be safe
Namibia is rightfully regarded as a very safe country. Safe in terms of social stability: only when walking in the capital city of Windhoek away from the main street you should expect to use normal precautions not exposing expensive jewellery or watches, the same precaution you would have in any US or European city. Other than that it is very safe, people are very friendly, welcoming visitors, and everybody speaks English. Safe in terms of medical assistance: in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay there are private clinics offering adequate modern standards of medical assistance. A service of Med Evac is available by ground and by air. Given the remoteness of most of the areas visited, personal medicines should be carried from home, and reckless behaviour should be avoided. Safe in terms of hygiene: no compulsory vaccination is required to enter Namibia. Except for some areas during the rainy season, malaria prevention tablets are generally not required. Please refer to your national health authorities for updated requirements or recommendations, and contact us for the most updated status on health requirements. Food hygiene in camps and lodges is generally very good, and ice cubes in drinks or fresh vegetable are as safe as in Europe or in the US. Safe in terms of quality of transportation: both in the road transportation as in the aviation industry Namibia has a safe record, with the main roads tarred or gravel usually kept in good conditions, and the vehicles and aircrafts used for tourists transportation of a very good standard.

Where will I sleep
A general note: in Africa a tented camp is not synonymous of basic accommodation. Some tented camps are of a 5 star hotel’s suite level, with its own style and décor, they just happen to have canvas walls instead of brick and cement walls, usually on a raised wooden deck. Ask us about pictures and descriptions, we will gladly provide them, together with our first hand feedback. Namibia offers a very wide variety of accommodation, from basic camps/farms/guesthouses, to luxury lodges/tented camps. Generally speaking you can plan your trip based on any level of accommodation you desire, except for a couple of top locations where only luxury accommodation is available. A luxury lodge or tented camp will provide ample bedrooms in excess of 30sqm, a unique décor, private bathroom with shower and/or bathtub, sometimes airconditioning, most of the time an outside deck, possibly with private plunge pool. Few locations in Namibia offer luxury accommodation. A comfortable tented camp or lodge will provide ample bedrooms from 20 to 30sqm, a unique décor, private bathroom with shower, no airconditioning, possibly an outside deck, no private plunge pool. Almost all locations in Namibia offer comfortable accommodation. A basic accommodation will provide ensuite rooms, generally clean, very simple, potentially rough around the edges. There is very few areas in Namibia where you would have no other options.

What will I eat
Namibia has a mix of English, German and Afrikaans influence, so expect an international cuisine and to eat fresh or cooked vegetables, very good meats, very good fish (not only along the coast, but also while in comfortable or luxury camps/lodges). In general comfortable and luxury tented camps and lodges offer a variety of food, and they can cater for any food allergies or preferences, provided they are notified at the time of booking. The vicinity with South Africa reflects in the availability of excellent South African wines, especially in the comfortable and luxury lodges and camps.

Should I take my kids along
Namibia can be considered a family friendly destination, with locations ideal for kids and adults: while the kids will have fun playing in the sand dunes, parents will enjoy its stunning sceneries. This said, Namibia is famous for its remoteness, distances are long, and in the unlikely event of a problem, young kids might be vulnerable. So generally speaking it is not recommended to travel to remote locations with kids under the age of 6. In fact some camps/lodge will not accept kids under such age, unless the entire property is taken on exclusive basis. Our staff (pilots and guides) have a very soft spot for kids, so don’t be surprised if your pilot will be as good as your nanny back home in taking care of your kids!
