Let us try to answer some of the questions you might have before choosing Namibia as your next destination. If you are not satisfied or have further doubts, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Will I be safe
In the early 2000 we used to fly from Cape Town to Cairo. Having our passengers and crew’s safety as our priority, and being convinced that this journey must be an enjoyable experience and not a struggle, we had to restrict our routing further and further. Now we operate from South Africa all the way to Kenya or Ethiopia, depending on the political scene. So don’t worry, we will only operate this AirSperience only through areas we deem as safe. Safe in terms of social stability: we currently consider very safe to travel South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya, especially considering we won’t spend time in the main cities. Safe in terms of medical assistance: given the remoteness of most of the places we will explore, and the lack of an adequate health care system, personal medicines should be carried from home, and extra care be placed to avoid health issues and physical injuries. This said, having your personal aircraft is definitely an extra guarantees, and for serious conditions we will be able to arrange Med Evac to Johannesburg, Middle East or Europe. Just make sure your travel insurance does cover for that. Safe in terms of hygiene: yellow fever vaccination is compulsory. Not much because we will visit countries where the disease is highly endemic, but because each country prefers to avoid importing it from its neighbours. Malaria prevention tablets are also advisable for parts of the journey. Please refer to your national health authorities for updated requirements or recommendations. Food hygiene in our selected camps and lodges is good, but always ask your guide or camp/lodge management for advise. Drink only bottled or purified water. Safe in terms of quality of transportation: we operate this journey with our own Cessna Grand Caravan, a world renowned reliable machine which we maintain to the highest standards. We are proud to state that there are no other pilots in the industry having a thoroughly knowledge of all the countries we visit, having flown and guided such expedition since 2002 on a regular basis.
Where will I sleep
A general note: in Africa a tented camp is not synonymous of basic accommodation. Some tented camps are of a 5 star hotel’s suite level, with its own style and décor, they just happen to have canvas walls instead of brick and cement walls, usually on a raised wooden deck. Ask us about pictures and descriptions, we will gladly provide them, together with our first hand feedback. Such a unique experience can only be achieved through an intense personalization, to make sure your expectations will be met. Except for one or two places where the options are very limited in terms of choice of accommodation (yet remaining at a good level), in most of the areas visited we will be able to let you choose from a good tented camp offering tented bedrooms of approx 20-30 sqm, private bathroom with shower, above raised wooden platforms, to top luxury tented camps or lodges, boasting suite size rooms of 30-40+ sqm, with unique interior décor, air-conditioning, private outside decks with plunge pools, inside and outside showers, etc etc…
What will I eat
The camps and lodges we recommend offer in general an international cuisine, so expect fresh or cooked vegetables and good meats. They will cater for any food allergies or preferences, vegetarians, vegans, gluten free etc…, provided they are notified at the time of booking. Sometimes based on the requirements there might be not much variety to choose from.
Should I take my kids along
Due to their remote locations and wilderness environment, most camps and lodges will not accept kids under 6 or 12 unless the entire camp/lodge is taken on exclusive basis. Also the mountain gorilla trekking is only available for 15 years old and above. In a few occasions we might have to travel for quite some time between camps/lodges. This said, everything is possible, you know your kids, you will define the pace of your journey. This is the beauty of a bespoke AirSperience, every detail will be crafted around your needs.
